in August 2012, not long after celebrating her 60th birthday, Lorraine suffered an illness and had to stay in hospital. Following an incident while in hospital, Lorraine had a severe and life changing stroke. This resulted in her having no use in her right arm, limited mobility, as well as losing her ability to speak and converse with others (Aphasia). Lorraine can understand every conversation, but frustratingly cannot respond. She often resorts to writing down her thoughts, when it is just too difficult to get the word out. That in itself, has been a difficulty, as Lorraine was right handed and has had to learn how to write/draw using her left hand.
Having been through all that, and with perseverance every day, Lorraine has made some progress, learning how to walk again and practicing her speech and language skills. Lorraine's personality is a very friendly one, she always smiles and is a wonderful person, always thinking of others before herself.
Lorraine has discovered that she can draw and paint with exceptional detail. lorraine sells her art work raising over £8500 which Lorraine has donated to charity.
We hope that she will be an inspiration to others.
